ANCHOR UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO COLLABORATES ON LEARNING AND RESEARCH
Anchor University is set to launch a laboratory in collaboration with the University of Colorado as part of the drive to make the University a powerhouse in mathematical science, statistical analysis and data science.
The centre which will be named AU Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Science and Data Analysis(AULISSDA) is slated to be inaugurated on Monday, 4th September 2017. During the inauguration, a lecture titledThe Extraordinary Potential of Data Science and Statistical Collaboration will also be delivered by Prof Eric Vance, a Prof of Applied Mathematics and Director of the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA) at the University of Colorado.
According to the speaker, statistics and data science are crucial to advancing research and promoting economic activities. In his words, “…through collaborations with statisticians, the extraordinary power of statistics can transform data into impactful research conclusions, improved business practices, and empirically based policy decisions.”
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph O. Afolayan, speaking on the initiative said Anchor University will always welcome collaboration and partnership that are designed to promote scholarly activities. “We have a huge vision to run with as a University and this initiative has come as one of the tools that will help us in achieving that vision. We want AUL to be a hub of scientific research in no distance time,” he said.
While addressing the Faculty members on the project, the Dean of the Faculty of National and Applied Sciences, Prof Johnson O. Fatokun said the centre would not only enhance and promote research in Anchor University, but it will also encourage the application of the research in real life situations and empower Anchor University’s students with special skills that will stand them out among their peers.
At the inauguration on Monday, Anchor University will become the 7th statistical laboratory set-up by the LISA 2020 programme whose mandate is to create 20 statistical collaboration laboratories in developing countries by the year 2020.
