VC tasks FG on regulation of varsity education

The Vice Chancellor, Anchor University, Lagos, Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele, has said that to move education forward, the Federal Government must give various regulatory bodies the leeway to properly regulate university education in the country.

Bandele, who stated this, yesterday, at a media briefing for the institution’s joint second and third convocation ceremonies scheduled for Friday, December 9, 2022, urged the Federal Government to fulfill its obligations.

He said the government should empower all education supervisory bodies and give them a measure of independence to enable them prove their mettle.

The VC said that Anchor University is on course toward delivery of 21st century globally comparable teaching-learning processes. He said the institution was on the move to greater height and has therefore charted a path on the glory lane to reach its goals.

Based on the new direction, the VC said the university, being faith based, under his leadership, would emphasise love to students and win the hearts of troubled youths.

While advising students to take advantage of the new approach, he, however, warned of zero tolerance to criminal acts like cultism, drug addiction and criminality.

Bandele also charged students to live gainful lives as they climb up on their career ladder. Noting that there is no shortcut to success, he advised them to labour wisely, with goals, evaluation, accountability and wisdom.

He also advised other universities to put every effort in place to ensure inculcating good labour into the thought system of their students. He said they want the university to be unique, because they believe if the school maintains its uniqueness, the university will grow and become renowned.

“Our niche therefore is to pursue everything that we want to do through the glory lane of our core values, character, competence and courage,” he said.
