DEPARTMENT'S PROFILE

The Department of Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) house two degree programmes which are BSc. Political Science and BSc. International Relations. The University got the approval of the National University Commission to run a Bachelor Degree programme in BSc. Political Science in November 2016 and the Department admitted the first set of students in 2017. Academic activities commenced in the Department on the 6th February, 2017. In 2018, the Department secured National University Commission’s license to run a BSc.programme in International Relations following an NUC verification exercise. Today the Department has grown both in terms of students and staff members, including Professors, Senior Lecturers and other academics with different specialisations both in Political Science and International Relations.

Generally, the vision and mission of the Department clearly align with the University’s mission and vision: to be a department of learning for holistic human transformation and development; and to impart the necessary knowledge, attitude and skills that would enable the graduate become self-reliant practitioners, leaders with godly integrity and researchers with global relevance. The Department also keys into the core values of the University which are: Godliness, Excellence, Transparency, Competence, Courage, Dependability, and Resourcefulness.

Specifically, the philosophy of the B.Sc. Political Science is to advance the frontiers of knowledge that are relevant to national and global development, and promoting a sense of self-reliant graduates with godly integrity. The programme seeks to produce sound and disciplined students, with global respect and local relevance, excellent character, knowledge and skills, who will be able to demonstrate competence in any area of endeavor they may choose after graduation. The programme aims to produce a crop of academically sound scholars in Political Science, globally competent practitioners, internationally relevant economic and political drivers, and leaders with impeccable character poised to anchor the leadership of the society at all levels of national interactions.
