Academic Regulations

Academic
Regulations

Rules governing admission, registration, assessment, progression, discipline, and graduation at Anchor University Lagos.

1. Admission & Matriculation

Students are admitted to AUL through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) unified tertiary admission process, through Direct Entry, or through approved alternative routes including Diploma progression and Top-Up entry. All admitted students are required to formally matriculate at the University's matriculation ceremony, take the student oath, and register with the Office of the Registrar. Matriculation is a precondition for all other university activities.

2. Course Registration

Every student must complete course registration within the period approved by Senate for each semester. Students may register only for courses permitted by their programme, level, and academic standing. Late registration, adding or dropping courses, and requests to exceed the normal credit load require the appropriate academic approval.

3. Attendance

Students are expected to attend lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, practicals, and other prescribed academic activities. A minimum attendance threshold of 75% is normally required to qualify for examination in a course. Absence caused by illness or other exceptional circumstances must be reported promptly with supporting evidence.

4. Examinations & Assessment

Assessment may include continuous assessment, assignments, tests, practical work, projects, and end-of-semester examinations. Students must present valid identification, observe all examination instructions, and arrive at the designated venue on time. Eligibility to sit an examination depends on proper course registration and compliance with attendance requirements.

5. Grading System

Academic performance is evaluated using the grading system approved by Senate. Course grades contribute to the semester and cumulative grade point averages. Results remain provisional until considered and approved by the appropriate Faculty Board and Senate, after which corrections may be made only through the prescribed review process.

6. Progression & Probation

A student progresses to the next level by earning the required credits and maintaining the minimum cumulative grade point average prescribed for the programme. Students whose performance falls below the required standard may be placed on academic probation and offered guidance. Continued unsatisfactory performance may lead to withdrawal from the programme.

7. Carryovers & Supplementary Examinations

A failed compulsory course must be repeated at the next available opportunity. Carryover courses take priority during registration and remain part of the cumulative academic record. Supplementary or make-up examinations are offered only where authorised by Senate and supported by exceptional circumstances documented through the relevant academic office.

8. Misconduct & Discipline

Academic misconduct includes examination malpractice, plagiarism, impersonation, falsification of records, unauthorised collaboration, and any attempt to gain unfair academic advantage. Allegations are investigated under University disciplinary procedures. Sanctions may include a warning, loss of marks, failure in a course, suspension, or expulsion.

9. Graduation Requirements

To qualify for graduation, a student must pass all compulsory courses, earn the minimum credits prescribed for the programme, satisfy departmental and faculty requirements, complete required projects or practical training, and be in good disciplinary and financial standing. The award of a degree is subject to approval by Senate.

10. Fees & Financial Obligations

Students must pay approved tuition and other charges according to the University payment schedule. Access to registration, examinations, results, transcripts, and graduation clearance may be restricted where financial obligations remain outstanding. Students experiencing genuine difficulty should contact the appropriate University office before a payment deadline.
