AUL Open Access Policy Our commitment to open scholarship
Anchor University Lagos is committed to the principles of open access as a means of maximising the societal impact of publicly-funded and institutionally-supported research. All academic staff, research fellows and postgraduate researchers are required to deposit a copy of any peer-reviewed publication in the AUL Institutional Repository within three months of acceptance, subject to embargo periods imposed by journal publishers. Where publisher self-archiving restrictions apply, the author-accepted manuscript (post-print) must be deposited in lieu of the version of record.
The AUL Open Access Policy is consistent with Nigeria's National Research Foundation guidelines and aligns with the Budapest Open Access Initiative principles. AUL strongly encourages researchers to publish in fully open access journals (Gold OA) where feasible, and to negotiate the retention of intellectual property rights in their publishing agreements. The Library and Research Office can provide guidance on open access publishing fees (APCs), supported by AUL's Open Access Fund subject to annual allocation.
Open access deposition directly contributes to AUL's performance on the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, which measures the volume of openly accessible web content attributed to the institution. Every paper deposited, every dataset shared, and every thesis uploaded improves the discoverability and global standing of AUL research. Staff are encouraged to update their Google Scholar profiles, ORCID records, and ResearchGate profiles to link to their repository depositions, amplifying the visibility of their work and the university.
