Head of Department Welcome Message

It is with great pleasure, on behalf of staff and students, that I welcome our esteemed visitors, prospective students, and the global community to the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Anchor University, Lagos (AUL).

Our Department was among the pioneering Departments that started AUL in November 2016. Since inception, our Department has earned full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC). We are committed to preparing and enhancing our students' engagement and interactions with their environment, especially by equipping them with the analytical and interpretative skills of historical knowledge to solve national and global challenges, by imparting a broad spectrum of historical events, phenomena, and new and emerging fields in history and international studies that have shaped and continue to influence human interactions and development across ancient, modern, and contemporary periods, covering Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Our Department stands out from other Departments of History owing to its trajectory of weaving synergy between the past and contemporary global issues shaping our world, including terrorism, international organisations, cross-border phenomena, gender, international trade, migration and refugee crises, culture and tourism, and international politics. The Department is endowed with a robust curriculum and knowledgeable academic staff who equip and prepare our students to solve societal and global challenges and contribute their quota to a better society. Studying History and International Studies at AUL offers our students enormous prospects of mastering the past, the dynamics of societies and the international environment in which they exist; of developing skills and knowledge that position them in corporate, cultural, diplomatic and international organisations; and, more importantly, of exploring the unique peaceful and godly ambience of AUL and imbibing the University culture of character, courage and competence.

Our graduates are trained to address personal, national and global challenges through the knowledge of history and international studies they have acquired at Anchor University. The discipline offers a wide range of opportunities for graduates to excel through personal entrepreneurial enterprise, in the corporate world, cultural institutions, international organisations and diplomatic agencies, and as resource persons for government agencies and institutions.

Head of Department
