The Department of History and International Studies runs an approved Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History and International Studies. The Department was among the pioneering departments that started Anchor University in November 2016, and has full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The programme gives students a thorough understanding of Nigerian and African history, international relations and diplomacy, covering ancient, modern and contemporary periods across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
The Department weaves together the past and contemporary global issues shaping our world, including terrorism, international organisations, cross-border phenomena, gender, international trade, migration and refugee crises, culture and tourism, and international politics.
Graduates are equipped to excel through personal entrepreneurial enterprise, in the corporate world, cultural institutions, international organisations and diplomatic agencies, and as resource persons for government agencies and institutions.
Programme requirement: A minimum of five O'Level credits in English Language, History or Government, Geography, Economics or any other related subjects, and a pass in Mathematics. Candidates should normally be at least 16 years old.
JAMB subjects: Use of English and three other relevant subjects: History or Government, Christian or Islamic Religious Knowledge, any Nigerian language, Literature, or Economics.
Programme requirement: Credit passes in O'Level English Language and Mathematics, plus one of: two passes at the principal or advanced level of the GCE with other subjects at O'Level credit (five subjects in not more than two sittings); passes in two major subjects at the NCE with O'Level credits in three other subjects; or an OND with at least a Lower Credit pass and five O'Level credits.
